Kazak tree of life carpet from the Southwest Caucasus
Age: around 1880
Measurements: 7'.65 "x 6'.28" (230x190 cm).
This fascinating and rare Kazakh carpet has two columns of green and ivory trees flanking a central axis with four complete ivory octagons, all on a warm and crazy terrain. Among the trees there are many camels, horses, dogs and chickens. Other stylized animal symbols, flowers and rosettes are present in the field. In addition, above the carpet there is a fractioned ivory medallion. The main green border is modeled with thick colored cruciform elements. There are four minor edges all with reciprocal sawtooth motifs: red and white, blue and brown. The colors are from natural sources. The carpet has been stepped on but the conditions are exceptional for its age.Ask Info
